I got bit by the motorcycle bug real bad after I bought the Grom last year. Since then I have been wanting to ride “full size” motorcycle. I have access to a few that belong to friends, but I have been reluctant to take any of them up on their offers to ride because their bikes are all relatively serious/expensive liter bikes (15' R1, 13' S1000RR, 14'Speed Triple). Anyway my friend who has got the R1 has since set it up for track only use, and went out and bought a 15' Suzuki 650 dual sport. He brought it over and let me take it for a spin yesterday, and it was awesome!
I was a little nervous at first as I threw my leg over and put it in gear. Then I totally forgot that it was a larger bike. I know dual sport bikes are supposed to be easy to ride, but this was a dream. I found myself going way too fast almost immediately. I gotta have another motorcycle!

I love dual sports. Really wouldn’t mind a WR250 for some around town driving and trail riding.

Just picked up a DRZ-400 last week, love everything about it so far. DS bikes really seem to be able to do everything pretty well.

It’s my main concern about buying a bigger bike. I tried to tell myself that I would take it easy, but then I was all like Braaaaaaaaaaaaaap!
I doubt that I would go with a dual sport when I buy a new bike because the Grom is already enough of dick around bike which is what I would be doing on a dual sport.
Who know’s though, if I can’t trust myself to be responsible maybe the dirt is my calling. Not a lot of legal off roading near me though.

Any ideas why a DR-Z400 is more expensive than a DR650?

once the shock wears off, you find yourself at more reasonable speeds.
I try to do fuel econ challanges on the SV and see how far I can get a tank. I’ve got 70MPG with it on more then one occasion

It does take a while to get used to the acceleration. It’s completely intoxicating.
After I got a bit more used to it, I only keep rolling on the throttle in more appropriate situations. Not that I can claim all of such are strictly legal, or adviseable.
I'm only on my second bike 13 years of riding. Initially I thought I would graduate from a 600 sport bike up to a liter class bike. In 11 years I've never felt a need for that. My little 600 is still stupid fast and I'm glad I have it.
